Wales is home to some stunning countryside and rural landscapes that are a haven for walkers, hikers, cyclists, horse riders and wildlife watchers. Whether it be in the mountainous regions of Snowdonia or The Brecon Beacons National Parks or in the heart of Mid Wales, there is an abundance of open countryside and green, rolling hills that make rural Wales a great choice of destination for a self-catering break.

Popular areas for a rural self-catering break in Wales include:

  • The Valleys in South Wales- The South Wales Valleys, often referred to as 'The Valleys', stretch from the east of Carmarthenshire to the west of Monmouthshire. A number of the valleys run parallel to each other with the Rhondda and Cynon Valleys found roughly in the centre.
  • Snowdonia National Park- Found in the north-west of Wales, the Snowdonia National Park is renowned for the iconic Mount Snowdon, however it is also home to some stunning unspoilt countryside.
  • The North Wales Borderlands- The borderlands in north-east Wales are found close to the English counties of Shropshire and Cheshire. The scenery found in this part of the country is truly stunning and is a haven for hikers, wildlife watchers and nature enthusiasts.
  • Mid Wales Lakes and Mountains- Mid Wales is largely made up of the county of Powys. The landscape in this part of the country is largely mountainous; the Brecon Beacons National Park is found in the south of Mid Wales and there are also some beautiful lakes and mountains found in the rest of the region.
  • Countryside in Carmarthenshire- Carmarthenshire is a beautiful county found towards the south-west of Wales. There is an abundance of outstanding countryside found here whlst the Pembrokeshire Coast and Brecon Beacons National Parks are also found not too far away.
  • The Brecon Beacons National Park- The Brecon Beacons National Park is found in the south of Mid Wales and is home to some outstanding countryside and rural, mountainous landscapes.
